Hi, I'm Julianna.

I study journalism and political science at the University of Florida. I’m the first person in my family to be born in the United States. My mom left Kuwait during the first Gulf War, while my dad was born in Spain after his own father left Honduras to study medicine.

I discovered journalism in high school, when I dual-enrolled at Florida Gulf Coast University and began writing for its student newspaper. As a teenager, I found a sense of belonging among the college students I worked alongside, learning from older student journalists and becoming part of a newsroom community. By my senior year, I had become an editor for the paper, and journalism had become a career I could see myself pursuing.

I also graduated as valedictorian of my high school class, earning the highest GPA in the school's history at the time.

Now, I work as a student journalist, reporting stories, taking photos and working with data. I’m especially interested in covering government and the legal system.
